February is done and dusted and here are the changes we made on the site throughout this short month
Tag Changes
We created a new tag Entertainment that will serve as a catch all for tags of entrainment we don't cover and a container for the sub tags: Music, Gaming, Movies and Television.
Gaming was a main tag - it's now a sub-main tag, Television was a secondary tag, it's now a sub-main tag and Music and Movies were created to get the most obvious things covered.. in terms of the Entertainment icon being used (hiking) ... you're welcome to suggest an alternative!
Technology main tag has been created and Phones has been moved under Technology as a sub-main. I you have ideas for other sub tags for Technology or a better name for it .. post stuff and it will be seen... possibly.
Another new secondary tag was created called 'lists' the basic idea is lists of stuff - I have numerous posts that fall into this so it made sense!
The best of… tag was the first primary tag i created after general but I’ve not added any further content to it as of yet and neither has anyone else. I have some ideas but nothing posted yet so with that in mind the tag has been moved into being a secondary tag
The Contributors tag is now shown in the topic list like any other tag, as it does not show to those without access, no biggie (we didn't want to show a topic that just said "no permission" so that's not the case anymore so all good!
Style Improvements
Various style changes have been made, most of them likely will go unnoticed but the big two are
- we finally fixed the issue with pages extra spacing.
- users in elevated groups now have group specific colour circles around their usernames.
- Switched out our current orange for a less eye burning one - #FF4433 aka Red Orange is now in use, ideas and suggestions from CSS wizards would be appreciated.
Polls
You (and we) can now create and vote on polls, currently the creation of polls is restricted to admins, global mods and contributors. This will change in the future should we opt to keep the feature
Drafts!
Contributors can now make use of drafts, wrote a post and need to go pee but worried about the cat walking on your keyboard? No, that only happens to me?
Drafts allow you to start a post and save it for later should you wish to revise it further or you just don’t have time to finish it now, it’s excellent for long winded posts (this post was a draft!)
Scheduled posting has been disabled for everyone due to a tricky bug we need fixed.
View Counts
I never really wanted to turn this on but it was suggested that having the ability to look at popular topics or see a topic is popular would be better all around so... topic views.
I have not set this to unique views nor have I turned on any of the other additional features as I feel they are a bit like 'tracking you' i.e they show who viewed what topic and that's a little meh but I'm open to debate on if that's a viable feature or not.
