Ubisoft announced alongside Xbox Ubisoft+ some time ago, a quick Google says September 2022… feels like longer and I personally had forgotten all about it until Wednesday when apparently Microsoft “accidentally” leaked news of it finally arriving on the Xbox - less than a day later we had official announcements all over the place and it the basic feeling seems to be that players expected some similar setup EA has with Xbox Gamepass, offering a select set of games as per of the upper end package.
However this is not the case and to be fair it was stated early on that this is Ubisofts own take on a subscription service on other platforms and would not be part of Gamepass - which is perfectly fine.. except till you factor in that Ubisoft+ seems to actually cost more than Xbox Gamepass Ultimate.
Xbox Gamepass ultimate comes in at a neat $14.99 which is a really good price for most, Ubisoft+ comes in at $17.99 per month and while I’m 100% certain for some players this is absolutely worth it - more so for those that want the premium version of Assassin’s creed .. it’s a steal but for most of the casual players this is a fairly expensive offering… I cannot imagine many would pick it up for just that ONE game unless you plan to complete it in a month or two …. beyond that it’s an expensive offering .. which is an odd thing to say 60+ games at $17.99 should be a decent offer but with Xbox Gamepass coming in cheaper and it’s in the realms of Playstation Plus’s premium package ..
Should Ubisoft reconsider its pricing? Probably not, again its a great deal on it’s own - if you can ignore PlayStation+ Premium and Xbox Gamepass Ultimate and feel like you will absolutely smash through the Ubisoft library then it’s a great offer.. but if you only dabble in the basic releases of AC yearly or Far Cry .. then physical could be the way to go
