May started out as a bit of a quiet month, I could not tell you why but I just had no interesting in posting, normally when I stop voting its due to my hands killing me and I have to give them time to be less crunchy (RSI is a bitch) but this time around.. lazy.. very lazy but things did pick up by the end so yay
Onwards with the changes!
A platform update to the latest version of Flarum (which is what we use) and that latest version is 1.3.0 which you can read all about on the official announcement here but for us, not many noticeable changes (visual) all under the hood fixes .. which is still greatly appreciated!
I was playing with the idea of introducing a blog style homepage - to give a news impression but the way tags worked didn't really sit well with my own methodology I have put in place on the site .. so rather than it sitting empty it's now gone
Atom / RSS
Also in the realm of taking things away - the RSS/Atom feeds has been removed, it's a neat idea but the username here is to small to warrant it and it's a lot of data exporting - doesn't benefit the site much (half those clone forums you see on Google are done via RSS syndication)
Yep more stuff going away, we have a question tag which will be remaining but the function of selecting the best answer had gone the way of the dodo - it's not used much and It's kinda bugging out on SEO stuff so the marketing team (me) was like no way it's got to go .. think of the views! won't somebody think of the views!
Badges be seen
On the upside guest users/public (not you, because you registered didn't you...) can now see users badges on profiles, so I suppose for the regular users this is a bit of a what can you done for me lately month but for the rest of the username .. hey look .. badges!
Deals - it'd be nice to just post up a good deal from time to time, so .. here is tag for tracking those deals, which is perhaps the most important part of a good deal!
Apple is now macOS and iOS
The Apple tag was renamed to macOS and a new tag iOS was brought in to supplement the mobile stuff Apple offers, yes I'm aware iPadOS and friends are strictly speaking forks but currently not enough discussion occurs about watchOS, TVOS, iPadOS, RealityOS and friends to warrant another tag
How do I follow a tag?!?!
This brief video should hopefully help those unsure how to follow a tag, note you must have an account to be able to follow a tag (sorry not sorry?) it was brought up that it's not super clear how someone could follow the Deals tag without an account, while I'm sure it's possible to track without an account, the method suggested is to just signup and use Lurker mode
