The company behind once upon a time hugely popular AR-ish game Pokémon Go - Niantic has released the latest attempt at making a solid AR game, this time around they are going with a Tamagotchi approach as you pick a and I quote:
each Dot is procedurally generated with 100% unique DNA, resulting in countless variations of creature looks
The press releases have already shifted to calling the Peridots, Dots - this is not the only new word you will be learning should you opt to pick up this game, seems they have breeding or Perigenetics which is still a feature missing from Pokemon GO…but irritation aside this game seems to be less Pokemon Go and more Tamagotchi but the press release does note that you need to:
Once Dots are old enough, Keepers can work together to hatch a new generation of Dots and diversify the species!
So it seems some social play is required.
I would love to pick this game up and run with it, but AR games always make me feel like an idiot, chasing something wrong while holding my phone - it is one of the first things I turned off on Pokemon Go and in general avoid most games that require AR…
I fully expect that if Apple announces (as it is expected to) the new RealityOS-powered AR/VR headset that this game will be part of some ‘on-stage preview’
Anyway, it looks like it could be fun, but it is an AR game so it does depend on how you feel about AR games more than perhaps anything else. You can find the press release here and if you are looking to install the game you can find it on the [Apple App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/peridot/id6445801028
) and Google Play Store
