iOS 17 is rumored to be a big update for iPhone users, with some major changes and improvements coming to the operating system. Here are some of the features that I’m most excited about:
Alternative app stores: According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is planning to allow iPhone users to install apps from alternative app stores, such as Cydia or F-Droid, in order to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act. This would give users more choice and flexibility in how they customize their devices and access different apps and services. This feature is said to be initially available only in Europe, but it could eventually expand to other regions as well.
Next-generation CarPlay: Apple previewed the next generation of CarPlay at WWDC 2022, which will support multiple displays, widgets, and integration with vehicle functions like the instrument cluster, climate controls, and FM radio. This would make CarPlay more versatile and useful for drivers and passengers alike, as they can access more information and controls from their iPhone on their car’s screens. Apple said that the first vehicles with support for this feature will be announced in late 2023 by automakers such as Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, Volvo, and others.
Apple Headset support: Apple is widely expected to announce its long-awaited AR/VR headset this year, which will offer a mixed reality experience for users. iOS 17 will likely include support for this device before it launches, as well as developer tools for creating apps and games for it. The headset is rumored to have advanced sensors, cameras, displays, and processors that will enable immersive and interactive experiences for users.
Fewer changes: iOS 17 may not have as many new features as previous versions of iOS, as Apple is reportedly focusing more on its “xrOS” operating system for its AR/VR headset. This could mean that iOS 17 will have more bug fixes and stability improvements than major changes, which could be a good thing for users who want a more reliable and consistent performance from their devices.
These are some of the features that I’m looking forward to in iOS 17. Of course, there could be more surprises and announcements from Apple as we get closer to the release date. What are you most excited about in iOS 17? Let me know in the comments below!
