I had no idea Wreckfest one of the best demolition style arcade racing games was even on iOS so I guess I will be paying for that later, thanks TouchArcade! I’m sure that’s 20-30 hours I will get back eventually…
Anyway I normally would have read this, nodded to myself and moved on but I was firstly unaware that game existed on that platform and I should have given I do check in on TouchArcade frequently - but I was blown away by the idea of mobile gaming and just where we are at, 120hz on a mobile game (on supported devices) is somewhat mind blowing just how far we have come, I recall the first game I ever played on a mobile device that really blew me away - Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and I played it on the iPhone 3GS
Frames were choppy, it looks fine, the screen was tiny and the device got so hot it would feel like the plastic on the back .. and my hands were melting.
My point is the game, which so far as I know has been kept up to date so it works with the latest iOS was amazing back then despite being choppy as hell, laggy and destroying battery life… now we have 120hz locked frames and amazing looking games on mobile, that barely scratch the systems abilities .. mind blown
I cannot wait to see where mobile gaming will be in 10 years from now.
TouchArcade wroteOver the weekend, HandyGames’ mobile version of Bugbear’s demolition derby-style racer Wreckfest ($6.99) was updated on iOS with 120hz support on compatible devices. This update follows a recent update with big graphics improvements on mobile including higher quality textures, trees, foliage on race tracks, an effects quality setting, 360 degree view with touch controls, and a lot more. It was also updated to bring in Apple TV support recently. Today’s update, only on iOS so far, also includes fixes for anti-aliasing not working correctly, and a graphics glitch in corners from skid marks…
