The recent trend of successful game adapted movies (Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario) perhaps proves that the movie industry is finally understanding that while changes can be made, the source material can work in the movie medium.
Clearly something big has changed become Nintendo if the below story is correct are fronting half the cost of a Zelda movie which could be absolutely massive, probably larger than Mario - Nintendo fans will rejoice and be concerned all at once, if the adaptation works - great if not it could taint a much beloved Nintendo property.
It is interesting that Arad Productions Is involved as they have a history of working on gaming content
If Kraven the Hunter as a movie is a success then I will remove all skepticism related to this project, but until such time I will continue to be concerned as I am anytime the Hollywood goes anywhere near a gaming franchise .. we all remember how good Halo looked but how trash that story was…
GamesIndustry.biz wroteNintendo is returning to live-action films with a new movie based on The Legend of Zelda, the company announced today.
Nintendo is co-financing the production with Sony Pictures, but the Mario maker will be putting up more than half of the money for it. Sony Pictures will distribute the final product worldwide.
The film is being produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions, with Nintendo representative director Shigeru Miyamoto and Arad Productions chairman Avi Arad listed as producers.
Arad is best known for producing many of Marvel’s TV and film projects, from the X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons of the ’90s through to the Tom Holland Spider-Man films, as well as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel.
