Ubisoft joins the gaming layoff collection club a month after telling everyone how successful Assassin’s Creed Mirage was… ripple effect
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a big hit, according to its publisher Ubisoft. The title’s shorter storyline and more stealth-focused gameplay pleased some critics as Assassin’s Creed Mirage received positive reviews, and it seems that the game is doing well in sales, too.
Seems success counts for very, very little in gaming as another publisher/developer opts to ‘optimise’ its staff - meaning less staff, doing more work and the only people that benefit as usually the ones doing the layoffs now granted Ubisoft stocks price isn’t great compared to where it was a few years ago but .. invest in your people!
The saddest part of all this is we know Microsoft/Xbox are going to do a very similar things when the merger really settles in, according to numbers from Variety they have around 17000 employees, although other sites suggest its closer to 13′000 .. I really do hope that Microsoft stays hands off and lets them do what they do .. just better than they have been doing it and with more variance.
According to Ubisoft, 98 of the employees work for its Canadian offices, and work for both its Hybride VFX studio and the global IT team. They represent about 2% of its total Canadian staff. The company says the layoffs won’t affect its production teams and that it’ll offer extended benefits and severance packages to its former employees.
