97 smartphone predictive text that’s so insistent it’s correct that even when you type something and it replaces it and then you retype that same thing it’ll just replace it again.
This is a tricky one as the example provided looked like a case of text placement which I use all the time to replace the with the … a common typo I make.
Neither the iPhone nor Android have many options on how to deal with this, I actually find this most frustrating on MacOS of all things.
With iOS you are limited (default keyboard) to turning two options off which will of course result in losing features that prevent typos.
Open Settings, Navigate to General, scroll down to and click Keyboard then turn off Auto-Correction and Predictive Text.
You can leave Check Spelling on as this will only underline incorrect words in red but will not attempt to auto-correct them.
On Android this is a little harder to explain as well not all Androids are the same, so I’m basing my feedback on my current Android phone which is the LG V60 and using GBoard, not the default keyboard.
Open Settings, Navigate to System, Navigate to and select Language & Keyboard, Find and select Manage Keyboards, Click GBoard
From here we can select a few options but for most people, I would suggest you only enable Undo auto-correct on backspace which can be found under Text Correction
For those that want more control and less correction, however, again all under Text Correction
- you can turn off Block Offensive words (optional, but it will keep you PG) This is only on the idea auto correct bugs you and you want it to get out of the way
- Auto-correction should also be turned off, which is the main culprit here.
I would leave Spell check and Grammar Check in place as they only check and let you know a word is wrong.
If you happen to be, for some odd reason using the LG Keyboard then:
Open Settings, Navigate to System, Navigate to and select Language & Keyboard, Find and select Manage Keyboards, Click LG Keyboard
From here you will want to head to Auto-correction, select your language and then make a choice between Off (it’s off) Mild and Aggressive - I’m sure someone will ask what the difference between Mild and Aggressive and I checked two LG documents on this and found pretty much nothing to really explain - it seems obvious until it’s not.
