Every month I get a basic report that outlines site growth, it never actually highlights failures or things going not so well, I assume google analytics is trying to look after my mental health by hiding anything bad news related from me - but a quick login and poke around tells a story.
Once upon a time, not all that long ago this site was a basic forum-as-a-blog type of setup where I posted whatever interested me. After a short while I decided to give the unfocused forum-blog-type-thing a focus and shifted the main focus to gaming.. made lots of posts about this, organised etc etc it was a whole thing.
As is the case when you work and try to maintain a site, sometimes you skip a few corners and this had kinda been happening with trailers, deals and news articles being shared from other sites with the odd bit of notes added in response - and here is where the problem comes in.
According to the analytics data - all original posts written from scratch are doing really well and continue to do so - anything cross-shared into the site .. gets about 15 or so views and then rapidly dies, with not much in terms of interactions
TLDR
Original content articles are doing well, shared in items are doing trash.
In terms of numbers, honestly not all that fussed, this website has no advertisements and makes no profit, if anything it costs time - but I do have an ego that loves big numbers so I would love to see the site perform better than it is, but honestly without doing a ton more work because I do work a full time job and as well as this and a few other sites.
I’m not quite sure what the answer right now is, perhaps an end of day roundup or something like that if you have any ideas on how things proceed then let me know, but right now its a bit of a puzzle so If things go quiet its because I’m pondering …
