Games with Gold - September 2018

Games with Gold the monthly subscription service for Xbox which provides access to online gameplay but just as important gives away several free games every month and every month the same question gets asked: "what games will be released this month?" and it's now time to answer that question as the official list of games has been released so lets go over them - or if you just wish to end the cruel game of reading, then watch the video below instead...

Prison Architect

Game Information
Take control of the building and running of a maximum security prison as the critically acclaimed lock-em-up arrives on Xbox One!

In Prison Architect you will see the impact of your grand design on the lives of your inmates; be it a utopic centre for rehabilitation, a brutal Super Max Prison or anything in between. Even when all of your prisoners’ needs are met, remember one thing - it’s still a prison and no one really wants to be there.

This is an interesting title as it will likely lead to a lot of fun for a lot of people, it's one of those games where hours can be lost just getting things to work the way you want, streamers of titles will love this one as it offers depth and diversity in its play style allowing for a good amount of decent content to produced from it - that said the hardcore give me triple-A titles crowd will not be pleased that this is the lead game due to its pixel style - for me simulators rarely are a miss so it's one I'm happy to see in Games with Gold although I'm not so sure I wanted to see it so soon after The Escapist (original and Walking Dead)  was added to the Game Pass library.

This game can be downloaded by those with an active Games with Gold subscription from September 1st through to the 30th of September

Game Information

Livelock is a co-operative top-down shooter where you play solo or with up to two allies to break the cycle of infinite war between machines. As one of the remaining Capital Intellects, your role is to unlock Eden and revive humanity.

I really did not know anything at all about this game, so a little research had to be done - based on the GWG trailer it's clearly a top-down bullet storm style kind of game, the story for the game reminds me a lot of the old school classic Total Annihilation (humanity basically moves itself into some form of robot-like consciousness and/or builds a robotic army) - it's not really my genre as I tend to find these games more about massive amounts of focus and attention, something I lack in great amounts.

Livelock will be free to download from September 16th to October 15th.

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

Game Information

The Games on Demand version supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish. Laugh your way through an all-new story that takes you through 16 different systems and experience brand new features like massive ground battles, boss fights, and multi-layered space combat. Expanded Force abilities, brand new weapons, characters, environments, and over 20 story-based missions make this the most action-packed LEGO game to date!

If you have played any of the Lego games, you know what to expect, a light hearted game that tends to be very loyal if not often a new take on a classic show, movie, cartoon etc etc - in this case we get Lego Star Wars III - The Clone Wars which is a solid game and offers a fun naritive and is great one to grab for the little ones - should you wish to allow them to touch your almighty Xbox that is...

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars can be picked up from September 1st through the the 15th of September

Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World

no decent trailer exists, if you happen to come across one let me know and I'll add it.

Game Information

Bring peace back to Monster World in these three classic action RPG titles: Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World, and for the first time outside of Japan, Monster World IV! Now available for download on Xbox LIVE, the Monster World saga features all new achievements, challenging new trial modes, Xbox LIVE Leaderboards, and recordable and downloadable game sessions!

This is a tricky one as I'm an old school Sega fanboy (back when they went toe to toe with Nintendo.... so yes I owned a Dreamcast, no it wasn't that bad...) however it's not a game I ever botheard with, even the game that shares it's name now isnt really my thing. I'm sure the folks that loves this kind of genre will be locing it but myself it's probably in the I might download it to take a look pile - I would be curious to hear from players of this game as to whats involved i.e why I should play it 9/10 games I dislike based on the read up and trailer I often fall quickly in love with.

Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World can be picked up from September 16th through the the 30th of September

So thats the collection for this month, the comments on the launch articles, videos and twitter seem very mixed which is expected given that last month was a very good month and the month previous was a bit of a flop - this month for me seems to offer a little to everyone without going too far. A lot if not most of the so called predictors got this one horribly wrong (always with the Watch Dogs 2 predictions, behave...)

Thats my thoughts on this month, whats yours, did you get your moneys worth and how does it stack up against the PS+ offerings for September? Let us know this and anything else in the comments!
